Your evidence bundle should contain four types of records. Each serves a specific purpose for diagnosing payment failures.
1. Wallet Identity Verification
Start by taking a screenshot of your Alipay or WeChat Pay profile page showing your name (even if it is romanized), your linked foreign card's last four digits, and the account verification status. If you have completed real-name verification (which is required for many merchants), include the confirmation page. This proves you actually have an active, verified wallet.
2. Card Binding Confirmation
Open your payment app and navigate to the card management section. Take a screenshot of the page that lists your foreign Visa, Mastercard, or UnionPay credit/debit card. It should show that the card is "active" or "bound" and not expired. Many travelers skip this step only to discover later that their card expired two days before departure.
3. Successful Past Transaction Log
If you have successfully used your wallet before—even a small 1 CNY test payment to a convenience store or a friend—capture that transaction record. It shows that your wallet worked previously, which narrows the problem to something specific to the current app version, location, or merchant terminal.
4. Error Message Screenshot (When Things Go Wrong)
When a payment fails, do not just stare at the screen. Immediately take a full-page screenshot that includes the time, location (if visible), error code, and the merchant name. This is the single most useful piece of evidence for support. Without it, they can only guess.
